PMVA Training

Prevention & Management of Violence & Aggression (PMVA) is the original NHS-endorsed framework, still regarded as one of the most robust and legally defensible approaches to physical intervention.

What we cover:

  • De-escalation & communication under pressure

  • Safe holding, escorting & disengagement techniques

  • The legal framework (necessity, proportionality, Human Rights Act)

  • Trauma-informed practice & risk reduction

  • Reporting, recording & post-incident review

Course options:

  • Initial training: 2–3 days

  • Annual refresher: 1 day

  • Bespoke modules adapted to your service

Outcome: Staff can act safely, lawfully, and confidently, with techniques that are justified, proportionate, and the least restrictive.

Mechanical Restraint Training (Handcuffs/Speedcuffs)

For higher-risk services such as secure transport or safeguarding roles, we deliver professional training in the safe and lawful use of mechanical restraints.

What we cover:

  • Correct application & removal of handcuffs/speedcuffs

  • Dynamic risk assessment & decision-making

  • Legal use of force & evidencing necessity

  • Team roles, communication & practical scenarios

  • Documentation, reporting & aftercare

Why Choose PMVA?

Many training models exist — MAPA, Team Teach, PRICE — but PMVA remains the foundation model that shaped them all.

At Frontline Training, our delivery is:

  • NFPS-aligned and legally defensible

  • Trauma-informed, protecting dignity and safety

  • Adapted for care, education and secure environments
